Operation Flashpoint: Red River, an all-new chapter in the tactical shooter series is now in development and will debut in 2011, Codemasters announced today. Set to deliver an authentic and intensely personal US Marine Corps infantryman experience, Red River's epic campaign will be played out on a deadly new battlefield set in the remote yet beautiful country of Tajikistan along the Vakhsh River.

Taking a small step into the future, Red River depicts a fictional conflict with contemporary geopolitical themes, which will unfold over three distinct acts in both single player and drop-in-drop-out co-operative play for up to four players online. Faced with new counter-insurgency combat and the returning threat of the Chinese PLA, players will feel the tension, brutality and carnage of modern conflict from the perspective of a marine fireteam on deployment in a hostile country, thousands of miles from home.

Building extensively on the successes of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Red River brings wide-ranging advancements including a deeper narrative-led campaign, streamlined inventory and control system, a refined enemy and squad AI system, player class roles including customisable XP upgrades and loadout choice, close-quarters combat, new air support options and comprehensive tutorials.

"Operation Flashpoint: Red River is being built around four player co-op online play, complete with a strong narrative, new enemies and combat scenarios to deliver gameplay that immerses players in the reality of war like never before. The new setting of Tajikistan is a diverse and exciting backdrop for the wide range of military challenges the US Marines face around the world in real life. We're excited to push the series in new directions while staying true to the core tactical combat that is the hallmark of Operation Flashpoint," said Sion Lenton, Creative Director.

"In creating Operation Flashpoint: Red River, we're building on our strengths whilst taking on board feedback from the community and focussing on key areas and enhancements to further refine the Flashpoint experience," said Adam Parsons, Executive Producer. "Whether playing solo or co-operatively, players will experience the tense and exhilarating tactical gameplay the series is famed for, expressed through a range of gameplay enhancements and an exciting new setting and narrative."

Refining the Operation Flashpoint co-op infantry experience further, players will be able to team up with their friends to play through additional co-operative game modes. Whether escorting a convoy to safety under heavy fire, or falling back from the enemy against almost insurmountable odds, each unique mode will test players' tactics and teamwork in distinct ways. New player class roles mean that gamers can play the way they want, honing skills in their chosen fields as they rank up through the new XP reward system and customise their equipment with numerous upgrades.

Overwatch & 2nd Patch for PC Out Now!

The 2nd PC Patch and Overwatch DLC pack for Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising (Boxed version) has now been released.

The second patch also includes new Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising downloadable content - the 'Overwatch' pack. This DLC pack delivers two game-changing multiplayer modes as well as new Fire Team Engagement (FTE) missions.

In new multiplayer mode Blindside the PLA must complete objectives in the shortest time possible while the USMC defends in tense, tactical engagements. An additional new mode, Supremacy, tasks opposing forces to occupy strategically vital positions featuring force multipliers like gun emplacements and air strikes.

Blindside pits a team of attackers versus a team of defenders in an objective-based mode that sees the attackers tasked with completing three objectives, while a team of defenders goes all-out to stop them. The attackers can complete the first two objectives in any order, while the third objective is only accessible once the first two objectives have been completed. In addition to having to overcome the defenders, the attackers are also under a time limit set by the host.

Maps: St. Sergius' Shadow, Road to Taranay

Supremacy is an objective-based territory control mode. Each team scores points by holding one of 5 capture points. Each capture point will also contain an 'asset', such as access to off-board fire support, when held for a prolonged period of time. The winning team is the team with the most points at the end of the round, or the first team to reach the points limit. If either team holds all territories simultaneously, they automatically win the match.

Maps: The Salt Flats, Island Control

These new multiplayer modes are complimented by two brand new FTEs. In Friendly Skies, PLA anti-aircraft artillery prevents US airborne reinforcements inserting into the combat zone. Players must remove that threat and then defend the position from a PLA counter attack. In Hostile Takeover, intel reveals enemy movement in the village of Armudan, a perfect base for launching attacks deep into enemy territory. Gamers must flush out the PLA, establish a perimeter and hold their ground against a new enemy assault.

Hostly Takeover

Armudan (Take and Hold) - Intelligence shows a lightly guarded village, 1.5 km east of the quarry. This would give us a good position to set up base and launch an attack from this end of the island.

Dev Team Q&A - SP/MP Mission Designers

Have you ever wondered, “Why did the devs do it this way and not that way?” Well, we're giving you the opportunity to the ask the devs themselves directly with a series of weekly Q&A sessions.

First off the bat representing the dev team will be the SP & MP Mission design team, meaning first of all we're going to be asking for all your questions related to SP & MP mission design. Feel free to make the questions as technical if you wish and we'll do our best to answer as many as possible.

For the first Q&A session we’ll be taking questions from the community from now until 5pm December 2nd! So if you have a question you’ve been dying to ask, send it to ofpdr@codemasters.com with the subject "OFPDR Q&A", and we’ll take the most popular questions and post them with the dev teams replies on Friday December 4th, as well as announcing the topic for next weeks Q&A.

Don't be overly concered if your question is not covered by the topic of the 1st Q&A, as we plan on running a number of these Q&A sessions in the upcoming weeks, and are hoping to cover practically all aspects of the game by the final one.

Ground Rules:

Keep it short and make sure it’s a question. If we have to tease your question out of a multi-paragraph editorial it will likely be passed over.

If we receive a large number of questions on the same topic we may choose one to represent the issue, or we may paraphrase a series of questions that all touch on the same issue.

Asking about release dates for patches and DLC will almost always be answered with a "TBC". So don’t waste your opportunity!

Keep all questions related to the area of expertise of the devs being questioned for that particular week. In the 1st weeks case this is the SP/MP Mission Design team.

Keep all questions asked civil and mature please. Any questions asked in an overly hostile manner will not be responded to.

Please do not submit your question via the forums, only questions submitted to ofpdr@codemasters.com will be put forward for answering.

If your question is platform specific, please specify that in your email!

It is very doubtful that questions regarding future DLC content can be answered at this time, so it might be best to refrain from questions of this nature

2nd Patch in Development

Helios has announced that the 2nd patch/title update is currently in development and that codemaster will continues to support OFP Dragon Rising.

Just wanted to update you all quickly regarding what the team are working on, as I've noted a few posts from people suggesting that we will be dropping support for the game now that the 1st patch/TU and DLC has been released. Please be assured that this is not the case and that we continue to remain fully committed to supporting the game on all formats post-launch.

Currently the team is dedicated to working on a 2nd patch/TU, and whilst the release date is still TBA, the good news is that this 2nd patch/title update will be a significant update and will address a wide variety of issues for SP and MP across the board.

While the the 1st patch/TU was primarily put out to address priority issues immediately affecting the quality of the game, the upcoming 2nd patch/TU will contain a much greater number of fixes and hopefully satisfy everyone's needs.
